Are you on antidepressants?

Every year, one in four adults are prescribed potentially addictive drugs.

A recent article in The Times newspaper noted that the NHS, under a drive to tackle antidepressant addiction, will offer the UK’s 8 million people on antidepressants art, music, and gardening classes. These classes are wonderful, but it ignores the fact that the brain’s chemistry is scrambled by these drugs. This is why, when some people try to come off antidepressants, the withdrawal effects are incredibly severe. They can’t handle it, and become addicted.

Most people are offered antidepressants at some low point in their life — menopause, divorce, or death of a loved one, for example. Although these symptoms may pass reasonably quickly, even without antidepressants, the process of coming off antidepressants can make life even more difficult in the long run. They are very helpful in the short term, but sadly your doctor is not versed in helping you come off these addictive drugs. When you do come off them, the effects you feel make you think that you are going back to the state in which you needed them, when actually it is your scrambled brain trying to unscramble itself. If you want to come off the drugs, there is no support for this. No amount of singing lessons, gardening, or dance lessons is going to help.

Here at Absolute Best, we have researched and read the growing body of evidence as to how CBD benefits depression, anxiety and cognitive impairment. Experts believe that CBD’s potential benefits for depression are related to its positive effect on serotonin receptors in the brain. Low serotonin levels are connected to depression. CBD doesn’t boost serotonin levels; it affects how your brain’s chemical receptors respond to serotonin that is already in your system. CBD’s effect on these receptors produces both antidepressant and anti-anxiety effects, but, completely naturally. Where most antidepressants take weeks to start working, CBD takes effect immediately. Plus, it has no side effects, unlike antidepressants.

The bottom line is, CBD is becoming an incredibly popular remedy for a range of health issues, including depression. Maybe try CBD before you start your antidepressants, or ween yourself off antidepressants and onto a high strength CBD. Message me for help.
